Editing Eagle Library

Hi,

I get a “Package in use!” error when I try to add a pad to any existing package and if I try to add pins in the symbol, I get “Symbol in use!” error. How do I convert a FE15-1 [con-lsta.lbr] to FE16-1?

Thank you in advance

Do you have an active project that uses the part? Temporarily remote the part from that project while you edit it.

Thanks for the quick reply Chupa

No, this actually happens to all components in the library, used and unused.

When it says it’s being used, it means it is in the library, making a device, not on a board or in a circuit.

To get round this, you need to go to the device manager and delete the package from the right-hand pane. This will free-up the package and allow editing.

I'm guessing that a FE16-1 has 1 more pin than a FE15-1. You are better off creating a new part called FE16-1. You can start by copying FE15-1 into your new FE16-1 and then editing FE16-1.

Oh, the FE16-1 was just a reference. My apologies if it misled you, I actually want to change the drill size on FE15-1.

FE15-1 is a simple design and it would be easier for me to create a new package but I would like to know how to edit a package so that it might be of help in the future when I am dealing with complex designs

Well i gave you the answer to half of your OP, just delete the device that uses both the symbol and package you want to edit, edit them, then make a new device from them…
