New PartC=existing PartA Symbol + existing PartB Package?

Hello - I (think I) need to create a new Device, a TI UA78M12CKVURG3 (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ua78m12.pdf), which is a 12V fixed voltage regulator; I need the SOT223 package. If it is possible, I could use the V_REG_78XX Symbol (78XX), and the SOT223 Package, both from Sparkfun’s library. How do I marry them up in a new Device, including connecting 4 pads to three pins? Further complicating things is the fact that I’m on a Macbook, and I don’t yet habla Apple.

Open the Eagle control panel

Expand Libraries

Double-Click on the Sparkfun Library

Now depending on what you need,

  1. Only 3 of the pads need to be mapped to pins (the other should be left floating)

Click on Device

Type in a name for the device

Click New

Click Add on the left to add the symbol

Click New on the right to add the package

Click Connect and connect the pins as needed

  1. All 4 pads need to be connected

Click on Symbol, find the symbol you want, use the Group tool to select all, and the Cut

Click on Symbol, type in a different name, and click new

Click on paste

then do step 1)
