El Sequencer - Chasing El Wire Strobing Issue

Equipment :

  • 1x El Sequencer powered via USB/FTDI
  • 1x 3V Interver
  • 1x Chasing El Wire (1 meter)

After connecting everything I loaded the EL Sequencer example code modified for only 3 channels (Channels 2-4/A-C). Upon running the code I noticed an odd strobing effect rather than the expected chasing patter I’ve seen previously.

I added additional delay between the channels, and discovered 2 of the 3 strands are dramatically darker than normal. Channel B (red wire) is the normal brightness, Channel A (yellow wire), and Channel C (black wire) are noticeably darker. See the above picture for connections.

I’ve tried swapping which channel drives which strand, and the red wire strand is always the bright one no matter which channel it is connected to.

I connected this el wire to a standalone battery pack inverter for chasing el wire, and the strobing issue goes away. All 3 strands appear of equal brightness, and they are all approximately the same brightness as the single bright strand seen when connected to the El Sequencer.

Has anyone seen this issue before, or have an idea of what I could do to resolve it?

Thanks,

Well not that anyone will ever need this since chasing el wire is pretty much extinct at this point, but the problem was that the common wire is actually the red wire, not the white one. I cut/swapped the red/white wires, and all three strands illuminate correctly now.

The wire color was aligned on either side of the JST connectors. The el sequencer JST adapter, and the el wire JST connector were just made in a way that doesn’t match up.
