I was assigned a project where I was asked to replace LEDs with EL Wires. I am particularly interested in the Chasing type. The drawing provided on the site wasn’t clear - does it have a pair of corona wires and 3 core wires? How are the connections (hot/return) made to each wire?
Is the speed of the “chasing” controlled by modifying voltage/frequency or something completely different?
Also, has anybody done a project using Raspberry Pi to control the “chasing”?
Thank you
Sorry for the late reply!
The corona wires for our chasing wire are all connected together and the 3 cores each have their own wire. Termination is 3 JST plugs, two of which have a single wire and the third has 2 wires. The plug with 2 wires has one core on one wire and all three corona wires on the other. The remaining two plugs are the other two cores.
Speed is determined by how fast you sequence through the 3 cores and direction is determined by what order they are energized.
You will need an inverter to power the EL wire and a board like the EL Sequencer to switch the different strands on and off.
