I am using the LPCXpresso board with the LPC1769 ARM Cortex-M3 chip (you could carry this or just the chip in addition to the LPC2138 ARM7 you already do but off-topic) and would like to have just a PHY Transceiver and not a full ethernet SoC like the WIZnets. NXP docs recommend the SMSC LAN8720A chip which I have on order elsewhere already but think would make a good product addition. Also, a stand-alone or embedded breakout board for this would be helpful when prototyping as I could not find a 24-pin QFN + exposed pad board anywhere.
Thanks.
The LPCxpresso 1768 or 1769 has everything on board. Just connect the Magjack http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8534 and you are ready.

Hmmm. Apparently it turns out the LPCXpresso ships with a SMSC LAN8720A on-board that I somehow missed or forgot about along the way; thanks for the heads up. Still, if I wasn’t prototyping with the LPCXpresso this would be a neccessity for prototyping with any microcontroller that has a MAC controller but no PHY Transceiver (at least all the NXP chips).
