Facet Display and unit is turning off by itself

Hello, My customer is having this problem down in South America. The screen and unit I belive are just turnong off. The customers are using the V5 radios for base and rover. Here is the complaint in their own words.

" This unit was ON and I trying to fix the Base coordinate and the unit turned Off the display. And I tried to turn ONand it happaned what we showed in last video.

And I tried several times and I hold the button and I plug the power Supply + USB cable and I disconnect the cable and I released the button and the display unit turned ON.

I really do not know what the reason the display turned off. The battery is full recharged.

This customer told me he is needing to let this base station ON in the roof during a lot of days and our question is. Do you have one external power cable for this unit? "

Any support on this would be appreciated. The unit just shuts off by itself, fully charged.

Still no reply from sparkfun support on this post.

Some of this stuff deep in the forum can get missed, and I think there’s a trade-show on. I’ve flagged/reported your other thread

You could PM @swells

It could be a few different things (defective display panel, the buttons’ membrane, a loose connection inside, etc) - We have this guide https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_RTK_ … play-board to disassembly if they are comfortable with such/attempting a diagnosis.

I saw the other said you couldn’t upload a video (our forum doesn’t allow direct uploads); put it on a file sharing/google share or something and share a link to the video/behavior

If it’s within 1 year we have a warranty that would cover the replacement parts…if it’s older than that we also sell replacement parts https://www.sparkfun.com/search/results?term=facet

Side note: responding to a post makes it slightly less likely to be seen because it has been ‘responded’ to…also, our response times regularly take more than ~24 hours

What’s the 'V5 radio"? All I see is this Vex/Lego radio: https://www.vexrobotics.com/276-4831.html It’s possible that the radio’s power draw is interfering with the RTK device’s operation. Once we have more specs on the radio, we can say for sure.

Sparky, I buy these radios, they get great range with my Autopilots and mission planner

Sparky to follow up on the turning off issue, I think the customer figured out why. From what I can understand in the text below is The Facet must be turned on then the external radio plugged in and it will avoid the turning off issue.

"When the display unit was off the unit off together and we discover the reason, when we connect the external radio in the Facet and if this external radio is ON, the display and the Facet unit will off too. And for the facet unit work again it will be necessary we hold the bottom and plug the charger and release the bottom + disconnect the charger at same time.

But if we turn ON the Facet unit before external Radio this issue will not appear."

But if we turn ON the Facet unit before external Radio this issue will not appear.

Ok, so is your customer ok?

Which version of the V5 is your customer using? The 500mW or 1000mW version? 433MHz or 915MHz?

I suspect the radio is drawing so much power at power on that the radio is causing a system boot failure.

We use the 1000mw 433 Mhz for these. I think he actually said it was operating for a short period, I’m not sure.

1W may cause issues and we can’t test 433MHz, but I’ve got the 1W 915MHz on order for testing.

For now, we recommend these radios (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/19032) as they are known to work.
