RTK FACET NOT CHARGING AND WON'T TURN ON

I have an RTK Facet purchased in October 2022, which does not charge and does not turn on, when it was delivered to me it did turn on but only once then no longer, currently it does not charge or turn on, you can connect it with Tera Term and it detects 2 COM ports.

In COM5 I get:

Error: I2C Bus Not Responding

I2C: Offline - Something is causing bus problems

As indicated in the attached image

Due to shipping and import restrictions in my country, I cannot send it for repair, what I can do is repair it here.

Cheers,

Javier

Hi Javier,

Thank you for the good serial output. It makes it easy for us to troubleshoot. We’ve seen this error before. Please direct message me your order number and we’ll get a new display board dispatched to you.

Hi Sparki,

Thank you for your quick response, I reply with the requested information

Hi Javier - please check your PMs.

Hi Sparky

I already sent the email with the request

Found it!

I have a similar issue as Javier.

I have an RTK Facet purchased in December 2022 (through Digikey). At first everything worked just fine until I noticed the display did not work anymore. The power button did still work because I had a Holybro telemetry radio attached which still could be turned on and off with the button on the facet. The two COM ports are still visible and I can gain access to the ZED-F9P with u-center. Using Putty to connect to the ESP32 shows the output as indicated in the attached picture.

It seems that every component talking over I2C is not reachable.

Because of a close deadline where I need to use the facet, I was hoping to fix it myself on a short notice.

Do you have any advice on what might (most likely) be the problem?

Regards,

Pascal

Sounds like the display board has failed. We’ll contact you with replacement parts.

Thank you for the awesome service!

It works again!

Cheers,

Pascal

Glad you got it working! My apologies that it failed at all.

Hi Sparki,

I already made the change of the display board, however the antenna still does not load. At the moment of connecting it to the computer and turning it on, it immediately turns off with the message “charge battery”. On the computer it detects com 3 and 5, but disconnects when the antenna goes off.

What could it be?

After leaving the unit to charge for a night, is it able to turn on? Please charge with the wall adapter or a high power (2A capable) USB port.

I have left it connected all night and it does not charge, I have done it 2 times and it still does not turn on

What else can I do?

I’ll email you.

I am having the same problem. One is brand new and another unit is doing the same thing which has about 6 weeks of use.

What was the fix for this issue?

Contact support for an RMA: https://www.sparkfun.com/returns We’ll get the device repaired and returned very quickly

I have a SparkFun RTK Facet (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/19984) GPS - 19984. I too seem to be having this same problem. I was logging data with my RTK Facet and when I went to turn it off it would not turn off. I tried to fix it by power cycling the device by unplugging the battery. Now it is really broken. It does not seem to turn on at all. However, if I plug it in to a computer via USB, a USB serial device and a USB Serial ch340 device show up. By pushing the power button, I can make these 2 devices show up and go away. If I plug it into power, the charge light does not come on. I am wondering what my options are for getting it fixed. If that is even possible. Thank you.

By pushing the power button, I can make these 2 devices show up and go away.

This indicates the device is turning on/off correctly, but the display is non-functional. Sorry for the hassle! We can send you a new display and you can repair it, or you can return it to us and we’ll get it fixed up. Let me know either way.

Thanks Sparky. The first time around I will try fixing it and if that doesn’t go well, I will return it to you.

Very good! Please check your email.
