RTK Facet won't turn on

I just received the 2 RTK Facet’s I ordered. One works great and the other does not. After reading other post of users with the same problem I connected it to my computer and I do see that it turns on and off in devises. It shows up as USB Serial Devise(COM9). Would this be the display faulty? Has this been the common fix for this? I also tried to add a bluetooth devise and it was never found. How long would it take to get it fixed? Of course I am needing to use it which was the reason for the purchase in the first place. Thanks

So many problems with the RTK facet nowadays. I just hope Sparkfun will make a more detailed troubleshooting guideline on this product.

@BridgeBldr - Thanks for reading the other posts! This helps us get started quickly.

Please note there are multiple com ports: https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_RTK_ … #rtk-facet You need the one called ‘USB-Serial CH340’

Please open the system status menu (https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_RTK_ … em_status/) and let us know what devices are online or offline.

I tried several times to connect to the USB-Serial CH340 (COM10) in Tera Term and could only get a blank screen, To check and see if I was doing it correctly I tried it with the one that works and the screen came up as shown in your example page.

That’s very odd. It sounds like there’s no firmware. Try loading firmware: https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_RTK_ … re_update/ If you’re on Windows, the GUI is very easy to use.

I couldn’t get that to work either. It seems that every solution to fix something that won’t turn on always starts with turn it on and do this or turn it on and do that. I would like to turn it on and use it.

Hi Bridgebldr - I’m sorry, it shouldn’t be this frustrating. It sounds like it’s time to either issue a return for refund, or a return for repair. I’m happy to work very hard to get you fixed one way or the other. Please see https://www.sparkfun.com/returns. You’ll get an RMA and we can have a look when it arrives.

I have received RMA# in a email last week but still have not received a return label that was suppose to be sent. I have looked daily several times for it in spam folders and everywhere but still have not found it? Do I need to try again? What is the correct address to send it to? Do you have phone service in that area at all to be able to talk to someone about this?

I have your ticket up. Sorry for the delay here.

I will work with a customer service representative tomorrow and make sure we send you a return label.

Feel free to ping me via the Email conversation you have going with Tech Support if you are still running into issues.

I still have not received an update on this. I shipped it to you on 7/25/22 and FedEx tracking shows it delivered on 7/29/22. In looking at the RMA on my account the status is listed as not received. So I assume this is to get me beyond your 30 day return policy and I’m screwed? Can you at least send me the parts back? Might make a cute paper weight at least.

Hi Bridgebldr - please do not fret. I’m returning into the office after an extended leave. We’re happy to issue a refund anytime you need it.

I have a similar issue my brand new RTK Facet will not turn on with the power button. I saw another post here and am able to power it on from the inside button. The battery indicator shows empty even though I have tried charging it for over night.

Any help would be much appreciated.

We’ve received units that have failed either because the display overlay was not connected to the internal display board causing the Power Button to fail, or the internal accelerometer on the display board was faulty causing the I2C bus to fail (which causes the display not to operate). Your internal button is working so I suspect a connection problem between the overlay and the display board.

I need to add some documentation about how to properly open and fix RTK units. Please wait until I get this written as we’ve had a few units damaged because users didn’t understand the internal workings.

If you’d like to return the unit, we’re happy to fix it: https://www.sparkfun.com/returns

I received a RTK unit yesterday, but the unit doesn’t seem to charge. I’ve tried the included cable and wall adapter, plugged in overnight, and other USB cables/hubs, but the battery doesn’t charge past the 48% value the serial port displays. I have it plugged into the computer whenever I have it on, so the battery doesn’t discharge either. It seems to be taking power from the USB cable when it is on, but doesn’t charge the battery. Any help is appreciated.

Hi cheetvsne - I’m not sure what the problem could be. If you have a cell phone with USB C you should be able to verify the wall adapter + USB C cable is providing power to the unit. If the charger is working I’m not sure what could be causing the unit not to charge. If it continues to be a problem we may need to repair the unit.
