I also use FreePCB although I think the part editor is so quick and easy that building the parts on the fly is almost easier than searching for them in a library.
I also think TinyCad is a really good schematic software that’s also free, just in case you’ve been looking for one.
I doubt SparkFun will release a library, considering they just switched over to Eagle a while back.
I haven’t ever had any of those problems you mentioned with Eagle. I have been using Eagle for a few years now and once you get used to it, it is a great tool. SparkFun using it says alot too, considering the amount of PCB’s they name.
Yet, if all you want to do is download a program, and make a PCB, then Eagle isn’t for you, it takes a while to get use to its quirks.
FreePCB is my weapon of choice, even if, as it may be, that I will never get a SparkFun Library, that I will endure and create components by hand in the down-to-earth footprint editor.
