I’m interested in possibly using the GeoChron to log second by second GPS data in a vehicle for up to a week. I’d like this to replace a Logomatic solution that is currently meeting only part of needs because, after a few days of use, it starts to fill up with files and then has startup delay (up to several minutes!) that results in missing the start of trips.
According to the datasheet for the GeoChron Blue (pg 4, bottom) “…when you turn your car off, the lighter plug also goes off and GeoChron goes to sleep until the car starts again. Then it continues logging in the same log file…”. It goes on to say I can still “…set it up to log intermittently while allowing the GPS to maintain a lock between logs.”
Since the Geochron (unlike our current Logomatic solution) will go to sleep and then wake up logging to the same file(rather than a new file with each startup, as we currently have), will it not have the long startup delays (intolerably long for our application) that we are having with Logomatics? And, if we configure The GeoChron so that the GPS maintains lock between data logging, does that mean we can have a very fast start of data logging (not waiting 20 or 40 seconds for GPS lock, as in the case of GeoChron’s ‘hiking example’)?
Any suggestions are welcome.
