GM862 Evaluation Board - RS232

Hi, I recently bought GM862 Evaluation Board - RS232 serial connection and I want to connect it to my computer to work via the hyper terminal, I also bought a male connector for the barrel jack and i don’t know how to connect the wires to it (the long part of the connector is the - and the small part the + ?)

I also want know with what voltage i have to power the board in order for the module to function properly?

If this http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=477 is what we are talking about, the schematic shows that the center of the connector (short terminal in the picture) is the positive. The longer one with the strain relief tabs (that get folded over the cable after soldering) is the negative.

According to the data sheet for the regulator (you can find that over at

http://www.linear.com/pc/downloadDocume … 1048,D1350, it can handle up to 15v and according to the board description, you need at least 5V, 200mA to run it.

Sparkfun has http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8269, a 5V 1A switcher that looks perfect for this job.

thanks mike that was a big help!
