go 3D with your Eagle design

Hello,

  • - Have you ever assembled your board and suddenly discovered that it was not fitting in the enclosure or front panel ?
  • - Have you ever found conflicts between two larger than expected components ? Or maybe a small component cannot be installed because of its surrounding ?
  • - Would you like a realistic preview of your system for advertising, or for convincing your boss ?
  • Then this might interest you !

I have developped a small tool that allow you to export a design from Eagle, and import it into Sketchup. All the softwares are available for free, for Windows and OS X (and Linux).

It was first published last year, and updated a few weeks ago for an easier use : one click to export, one click to import.

Compared with other 3D tools for Eagle, this one is completey free, and can be used for mechanical design : measure your project, design front panel and enclosure, test for collisions…

Here is an example with Sparkfun 6DOF product :

[Eagle’up is a simple collection of tools that allow you to:

  • - Import in SketchUp the layout of your board with precise placement of the components
  • - Generate a **realistic image** for the board faces
  • - Edit the model of your design, add an enclosure, **stack multiple boards**
  • - Rotate and zoom in your 3D Eagle model with complete freedom
  • Eagle’up has been downloaded almost 2000 times since last year and just got some advertisement from Cadsoft :

Oh, I will DEFINITELY be using this. I tried EagleUp a few months ago and found it extremely useful, despite the many steps required to get a design imported to Sketchup. If you’ve simplified it, all the better! Creating new parts in Sketchup is way easier than POV-Ray.

We just need people to start drawing up some more good 3D models and this will be perfect.

You can already find some models in the warehouse section.

And of course you can draw some yourself and share them. It’s very simple to draw a part and you will need the skills when it comes to enclosure or front panel.

    Very cool thank you!
