i’ve ordered some boards through batchpcb. they say in the faq they use gold phoenix pcb for manufacture. i’m ready to take it to the next level and do the ‘special prices’ deal they have going.
does anyone have experience with that? any reviews?

Greetings Hoeken,
I’m happy using BatchPCB for my current needs. I’m curious what you think is the “next level”? Are you in volume production with a prototype already made through BatchPCB? What volume? What size (X*Y) inches?
Comments Welcome!
I used gold phoenix for one order with their “special” pricing… Didn’t have any problems. They ended up charging a little more because I paid with a credit card, and the wait for shipping was kind of long, but the boards looked good.
I actually priced out using them for some assembly work as well. Their prices were great, but the savings got washed out in the shipping charges. They said the only way to go was DHL, and it was very expensive. oh well.

I also plan on using the specials soon. 155 square inches with soldermasks for $90 is a great deal IMO. The assembly price seems very high, though.
whittenburg, could you elaborate a little? How much extra did you pay and how long did it take?
At the time, July of 2005 (how time flies), I paid $89.99 + 3.4% for the credit card (total of $93) for 155 sq inches. My board was 160mm by 100mm (24.78 sq inches), so I only expected 6 boards, but I actually received 8 copies. I paid with paypal.
Ordered on 7/13/05, they shipped via TNT on 7/18/05, I can’t find the record of the date that I received it… Probably about a week later.
On the assembly issue, I had a small temperature probe with two surface mount ICs and half a dozen 1206 passives. To assemble 200 of these boards, they quoted $200 USD. I thought that was a deal compared to doing it myself by hand. Unfortunately, the quote from DHL for shipping the components to them was $100, which negated the bulk of the savings and we never did use them.

heres the scoop: i’m involved with the open source [url=htt://www.reprap.org]RepRap project. we’re moving to production for both of our v1.0 boards. we have a small 6 sq in power / communications board and a larger 11 sq. in controller board. a user will need 1 powercomms board and 5 controller boards to build a machine.
so, i’m looking into doing the ‘special pricing’ deal and ordering enough for about 20-25 kits.
hopefully by the time v2.0 rolls around, we’ll be able to move up to the level after that and get the $0.12 / sq inch deal from them. that would really rock.
I use and have used the special pricing for a product of mine, my first production item, since about November last year.
I think I would be spending over $1k a month with the now, I get them to do all my assembly which is great!!
Check pcbcart.com. A month ago their price was better than GP - I can’t use GP’s special price since I need silkscreen on both sides. Also, pcbcart doesn’t charge tooling on reorders, that’s another ~$30 off.
Is there a specific reason that a 2 year old thread was resurrected?
A lady from China was spamming here yesterday. I don’t see her posts anymore, she might have deleted them after I sent her a PM.
