Hi,
Interested in making good sounds using the MEGA8/168 as the controller. Is there any projects/tutorials, etc. out there and also what would be a good DAC chip to use? There is one chip PCM2706, but it does not come as PDIP and mouser.com does not sell individual pieces.
Thanks.
I think you will find that all the audio DACs are SMDs.
You should be able to get a couple of free samples of the PCM2706 from TI. You’ll find a dsPIC much easier to use with it than an AVR; the DCI will interface directly to it whereas you will have to emulate it in software with the AVR. You don’t really need the USB interface, TI makes similar devices without it like the PCM1774. Wolfson makes a nice one in a SOIC-8 package - the WM8762
