How do I get my Qwiic MP3 Trigger working without programming? PLEASE HELP.

I have bought a Qwiic MP3 Trigger. I have a 16Gb microSD formatted to FAT32 and put on it some mp3 with file names as per the quick guides states. I have connected power to the USB connection. The power light comes on and I have connected headphones and then I apply ground to any of the qwiic trigger connections. Nothing happens, no sound, nothing. I bought this understanding that no programming was required to get it to work but it does not. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE HELP

Hi Justin.

What are you plugging the USB cable into for power?

What file names are you using?

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply,

I am connecting the USB cable to the mains socket with a USB mains plug . I have called the files: T001.mp3 T002.mp3. I have also two files called TOO1.mp3 & TOO2.mp3 on the SD card as I was unsure if it was a 0 or O that I should use. Also I’m not sure if the file names are case sensetive.

Should it work without programming?

Regards

Justin

Hi Justin.

The triggers on the Qwiic MP3 Trigger will work without any programming. The triggers rely on your track names being correct for triggers as well. The correct format is Txxx.mp3 where xxx is a number between 001 and 016. (zero zero one → zero one six)

It looks like you have that correct but you might try removing the TOOx.mp3 files just in case those are confusing the board. I have a set of known good files, you might format your card and put mine on just to see if things work then. (might be something weird with your files.)

Qwiic MP3 sample trigger files.zip (191 KB)

If that still won’t work, it could be something in your USB power supply is fooling the board into thinking it’s connected to a computer and that causes the board to boot into ‘mass storage’ mode. While in that mode, all audio is disabled. You might try a variety of different USB power adapters to see if one doesn’t cause the board to think it’s connected to a computer.

Make sure you’re jumping the correct pins for the triggers too. You need to jump a GND pin on the edge of the board with one of the numbered triggers to get a file to play.

Finally, use a cheap pair of headphones or ear buds connected to the Phone jack. Make sure the plug is in all the way, when the jacks are new, they sometimes stick a bit before the plug is inserted fully.

If you’re still having issues after all that, let me know what your order or invoice number is.

Thanks Chris

I have tried what you have suggested and have managed to get it working.
