I have recently acquired one of these little guys and have integrated into our latest room.
Powered by a 3.3v feed coming in from a neighbouring, jointly grounded Arduino, it has been fairly pleasant addition so far.
As of this afternoon, the trigger is no longer playing audio.
Nothing has been changed; it has not been accessible physically.
After power it off, I tried hooking it up to my mac but it now refuses to mount, stating the external drive I’m attempting to connect needs be re-initialized.
“click here to reinitialize” (and I realize we’re in Apple territory at this point) you won’t be too surprised to read, does nothing.
This little guy has been running fine without any further interventions for a solid 6 weeks and now what, oh what am I to do now?
Hello, and thanks for posting.
If you pull the SD card out and insert it into a computer, do your files show up? If not, have you tried a different, known good SD card in the Qwiic MP3 Trigger?
The trigger I am using, does not have an SD card:

OK, that’s your problem. As per the [hookup guide, the Qwiic MP3 Trigger requires a 512MB to 32GB card formatted in FAT32 to function. Are you sure someone didn’t remove the card from the back of your board?
Also, can I get your SparkFun order number?

You’re right, I had forgotten about the backpack and confused the onboard memory feature with another trigger we have elsewhere in the room. That said, when I remove the SD card that was in there, I can mount it and read it using the card reader of my laptop but cannot when connecting to the trigger directly (which really, is fine by me).
I tried putting a different SD in there just to see and we get the same results.
The trigger is powered, but does not trigger audio when the pins are grounded.
I just want to re-iterate that the MP3 trigger was secured into a module, nothing was changed to any of the connecters or power, nothing changed in the entire circuit. It was working, now it’s not.
To answer your first question: when I pull out the SD, the files show up on my computer. I also tried a different SD, just for kicks; no go.
OK, Not sure what may have caused this. Can I get your SparkFun order number so I can look at getting a replacement shipped?
Hey, for some reason I did not get a notification of a new message. I had ordered through Digikey Canada. My order number was: 61795245. WEB ID: 304881494. Anything else you would need?
thanks ahead,
OK, since you got this through Digi-Key, you would need to contact them to get a replacement.
Digi-Key should be happy to help you out with this.
I believe the default settings on all accounts is to notify you when a post gets a reply, but just in case yours got turned off by mistake, it’s easy to turn back on.
Just find your username in the upper right hand corner of the screen, click that and then click on “Control Panel.”
Then, click the “Board Preferences” tab and select “Edit notification options” and make sure “EMAIL” is selected for “Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed” and you should be getting a notification email once you get a reply.
Thanks Chris; I’ll take it up with Digikey.
Take care,
PA
