I am working on a project to build a machine that will grind and polish stone. To do this I need to mount an electric motor to a 1x4. This is the first time I have worked with an electric motor like this so I am not sure of the best method to mount the motor or how the motor was intended to be mounted. I have included a picture of a similar motor. The projections from the gear box are hollow but are not threaded, are they designed to put a screw into them for mounting? I need to mount the face of the gear to a 1x4 so the shaft passes through and it seems awkward to have to strap or clamp the motor on some other way. I apologize if this is a no-brainer question but I have just never done this before and I want to do it the best way.
Is it the same thing? This is a gearbox with motor, not only a motor.
You know, I guess it is better to show pictures of what you already have. It’s pointless to suggest mounting options for something that will not fit. According to those drawings those mounting holes of the gearbox should be threaded for M4 bolts.
Well, you can always make your own threads in it then. It doesn’t make sense that they are not though. I can’t imagine how you would fix it to anything. And it seems to have been been used already (dirty). Any idea what for?
If you can manage to thread those holes I would only use the 4 outer ones. The less holes you drill into the wood the better. And the wider apart the holes the better it can withstand torque.
How far does that output axle protrude from those ‘mounting’ stems? It’s difficult to see due to the angle. How does that grinding disk or whatever match to it? Maybe that requires a hole around the output axle too.
