How to downgrade a WiFly ?

Hello,

i have a wifly RN171 on my own board. The RN171 runs at firmware 4.00.

The app i want to use needs the adhoc-mode at the wifly. Roving’s website says, adhoc is supported with firmware-vesions up to 2.36. Firmware-versions 2.45 and above are supporting the soft-AP-mode. So i have to downgrade the firmware.

In the public - directory at rn.microchip.com are laying only the newest versions of the firmware. Where can i get older versions? How can i downgrade my RN171?

All the old firmware images, including 2.36, are in ftp://rn.microchip.com/archive/

Thanks!

I’ve found the wifly-236.img in the directory archive. The wifly-manual ( Version 1.2r 4/30/13 page 83 ) says ftp-directory is ./public “this parameter cannot be modified”. I tried it anyway - set ftp dir ./archive → save → get ftp → Dir=./archive. Seem the RN171 has saved it. Next defined the file - set ftp file wifly-236.img → save. After this - ftp update wifly-236.img. The wifly connects to the server and loads the file (a line of dots running up) , but finally i get the error-message “file 0, UPDATE FAIL=6”.

What else can i do?

Update:

My Failure. It seems I had to choose wifly7-236.img for my RN171. Now it works.

Thanks for the push in the right direction!

The ftp site now asks for a username and password. Do you happen to know what that would be?

this was actually always the case, if you look in the config file (get e command) you will see it
