I buy a ID-20 device in your company and I’ve got a problem on achieving a 2-1meter read range of this device. Is it possible to achieve of this range?
I made the coil antenna with 700mH of gauge 34 enamelled magnetic wire with 14.5cm internal diameter and has 45 turns. The antenna works but the range is very small because the ISO card must be very near to the antenna with 0 distance in order to read.
Can you help me to design the antenna for this product??I need an urgent response because I have only 1week to finish this project and the only problem is to achieve the 2-1meter range of the RFID device.
From what I gather reading the data sheet, the pinout is the same as the ID-2 device which uses an external antenna. I don’t know if the internal antenna is connected to these pins. Even if it is, putting an external antenna in parallel with the internal antenna would give very poor results because it would be difficult to find the proper tuning and also the antenna current would be shared between the 2 antennas. So yes, it would seem you have the wrong device for your purposes.
BTW - What is 2-1Meter range? Even with and external antenna on the ID-2, I wouldn’t expect to get even 21 Centimeter range unless your antenna is optimised and you are using a large RFID tag, such as a key card. To get good read range on near field RFID, you need to push more power than these modules provide and the circuitry that receives the tag signal must have better filtering and more sensitivity.

Range listed on ID Innovations website for the ID-20 is 200MM is which roughly 8 Inches. They do have devices available that read up to 180cm about 70 inches… They also have multi antenna units that are used for animal tracking, maybe along the lines of what your looking for. www.id-innovations.com
Anything longer range than that and your looking into active rfid, basically its power by a battery and amplifies the signal further. Would be like holding down the unlock button on your cars transmitter all the time and when your in range it would unlock your door.
