[Help!] external antenna for RFID ID2

Hi everyone, thanks for reading.

My project need a short range RFID reader, so I purchased ID2 and an external antenna.

However, the reading range is too short. At first I tried a small launtry tag, and found the reading range is only less than 5mm maybe. Then I thought maybe an ISO card can give a longer range… but it turned out the same.

My antenna is circular, small in size, about 20mm in diameter. Now I’m thinking of making a bigger antenna. Purchased wires but found I don’t know how to make one last night

Can anyone give any suggestions? How can I make the wires stick together to be an antenna? How can I measure the inductance to be 1.08mH as suggested by the ID Innovation?

Thanks a lot.

And can anyone help me check this please.

“Typical range to ISO card is around 5-6 cm, range to a small button tag would be around 3-4 cm depending on tag size and your Reader antenna power of course.”

This is the reply from the antenna manufacturer. I want to know what is the “Reader antenna power”? Is it the current from the ANT1 and ANT2 pin from ID2?

Thanks a lot.
