IOIO OTG v2 USB type-C

Hello everyone,

Sorry for my english, as I am a french customer.

I’m working on a project where I have to developp an android app that launch a video and light a LED on an architectural model at the same time.

I need to buy the tablet. I firstly wanted a samsung galaxy tab s2 9.7 but the client want a more recent one.

I founded two : Samsung galaxy tab A 10.1 or 10.5

Both have a USB 3.1 Type-C, so I am wondering if it will cause any trouble (or even work) with the IOIO OTG v2.

Also, do I need another OTG cable than the one include ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi Flaviator,

There is a list of supported devices in the [IOIO Wiki GitHub Repository. That will be the most complete and up-to-date resource for all things IOIO. Any devices not listed on that page have not been tested and we cannot say whether or not they will work with the IOIO.

As for a separate cable, you will most likely need one to convert to USB Type-C as cable included with the IOIO OTG is a USB Female-A to Micro-A Cable. We have not tested this board with USB Type-C devices so I cannot guarantee it will work, unfortunately.](Supported Devices · ytai/ioio Wiki · GitHub)

Hi TS-Mark,

Thank you for your answer. I though that at least one device would have been tested as USB C exist for few years now. I already checked the list, I spent a lot of time doing researches before I asked here, but you’re in the best position to answer me !

For the cable problem, I’m not sure I really understrood what you said… The cable included with the IOIO OTG is a USB Female-A to Micro-A Cable, ok, but the micro-A will be plugged in the IOIO and Female-A will be plugged by the Male A that comes with the tablet (Male A to Micro-C).

So we got : IOIO → Micro A to Female A → Male C to Micro C → Samsung Tablet

Maybe I’m mixing everything, I’m not familiar with electronic.

As I explained on my first post, I need to light some LEDs while i’m launching a video on my app. The main problem is : I need to supply the tablet et use a cable connection to the interface (no wireless). The IOIO-OTG is the only solution I found, maybe there’s another one ? Other products that Sparkfun has developed ?

From what I saw on the web, USB 3 is faster but compatible with USB 2 or 1, and USB Type-C supports DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, USB Micro-B, USB Type-A, and USB Type-B protocols.

Anyway, if I try on that kind of device, I’ll notice you the results.
