Greetings! I’ve got two of the SparkFun PRT-13782 panels (3.5 W peak 6v) running in parallel [I’m in Michigan and we get 60% overcast most of the year]. I’ve cut the trace on the back of the sunny buddy (SB) to put the two barrel connectors in parallel to achieve that configuration. I was running a solid 6v no-load and no-battery output from the SB with the panels connected. yeah! Then I disconnected the panels, reconnected the load to the photon weather shield and hooked up the battery. 4.12V on the output, good. hook up the solar panels again and wait for peak sun. I’ve got a wire going from the !CHRG signal on the SB to an input with pull up resistor enabled on the photon. I’ve ben watching that signal all day and its not asserting. So that leads me to believe the SB is not charging the batteries. Additionally the batteries continue to drain. How can I verify and test the charge function? I’m at a loss. thanks.
opps… not parallel on the panels, I meant series.
Ok. so I mis-spoke twice. I unsoldered JP1 and solder bridged JP2 and added a second barrel jack for both panels to connect to the board. There, that’s how I got 12V into the board from two 6V panels.
Both the !CHG signal and the !FAULT signal remain un-asserted. So no charging or fault conditions.
further testing shows the inductor is good and the diodes are ok as well. guess I somehow fragged the main chip. giving up on this unless tech support or the community has something to offer.
