Issue wth Powering the GM862 on the EVK v3 board

Hi,

I received my GM862 evaluation kit yesterday and am trying to configure the GM862_EVK_V3_USB board. I am able to see the serial port in the device manager. Now when I go to the next step in the GM862_EVK_V3_USB-RS232.PDF which is to hold the on/off switch down for about 2 seconds after which the status led is suppose to blink. I tried couple of options (held the switch down for different time lengths too)

  1. Just plugging in the usb and using the power from the usb port

  2. Used a 9 volt power supply with 200mA ( the pdf said the input could be 5 to 12V)

  3. Used a 12V 1A power supply.

None of this seems to get the status light to blink. I am not able to type any thing on the hyper terminal which would indicate that the GM862 is not turned on.

I am using an usb1.0. I am going to try getting a 5V 2A power supply and try using a usb 2.0. It would be of great help if anyone here could help me figure out why this chip would not start . or to figure out if I have a defective GM862 chip

Thanks in Advance,

Badri

USB power should be enough, especially if it doesn’t have to register (take the SIM card out).

I would also try reseating the GM862 module on the board. Mine (same EV board) started without problems.

Hi,

We did a return on this customers item, was due to a bad solder joint on the gm862 eval kit motherboard.

Cheers,
