I’ve got a strange question. I just got the USB EV board with the GM826-PGS module and powered it through my USB 2.0 port. I’m able to talk to the module via Hyper Terminal (setup at 9600-8-N-1), however, any “AT” command other than “AT” only produces the response of “ERROR”. I thought maybe the issue was the power supply so I replaced it with a 5V 1.5V on the 2.1mm power connector, but it did not solve the problem.
What am I doing wrong? I can’t get the GM862 module to respond at all.
Is there something I need to setup on the USB EV board to make this work? I’ve posted this question here and on other forums and still have yet to get a response. Getting frustrated here…
If the GM862 is responding to every single command with ERROR, its likely a faulty module or perhaps it needs a firmware upgrade.
You could increase the error level to 2 (provides both numerical and text error messages) with AT+CMEE=2 — assuming that it doesnt provide an error as well
You are providing plenty of power to this unit. If it was really a power issue, the unit would just cut out on network registration, and you would be complaining about this instead.
Thanks for the response. Yes, someone else suggest to increase the error level to 2 with AT+CMEE=2, but that too produced the “ERROR” response. After many emails with SparkFun in the past few days they came to the conclusion there was either an issue with the module or USB EV board. I sent both back today with a RMA number. Sure hope I get a new set soon because I’m itching to work with these modules.
I’m happy to report that I finally got the GM862 working. It was a guy from Telit that figured it out. He said it sounded like I was talking to my internal modem on my laptop and not the GM862. Well, when I ran the USB drivers for the EV board all installed fine, but after I found out today the proper Comm port never showed up in the HyperTerm dialog. I re-installed the drivers today and it worked this time.
