LED panel power supply question

Hello all.

I have a Sparkfun 64 x 64 LED panel.

I’ve read the hookup guide here: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/rg … okup-guide, which is great.

However, I don’t have any combination of all these parts on hand.

I feel like I can do a variant of the “Short-Term: Barrel Jack” approach, but want to confirm it’s ok.

I do have the 5V/2A wall adapter power supply which is recommended: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15312.

However, I don’t have the female barrel jack adapter that’s recommended: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10288.

Can I just cut and splice my power supply’s cables and connect them directly to the RGB panel’s red and black? So it’ll be connected just like what I see in the guide - just a more permanent connection with no barrel jack adapter or Y-clips. I just want to make sure that’s safe and not problematic for some reason. I understand that it means I will lose the barrel jack for my wall adapter.

Thanks!

That should work. When you cut off the plug on the power supply, use a DMM to verify the polarity and connect the positive to the red.
