Long antenna for SAMD21 Pro RF?

Hi everyone,

I am using the Pro RF to communicate between 2 modules that are placed about 3km apart. We are working at a frequency of 863 mhz. The modules are on the ground and we are using the Pycom LoRa and Sigfox Antenna Kit - 915MH.

At 3km we mostly lose signal, but lifting the whole module just about 1 meter off the ground gives us a perfect connection.

Is there an 80cm - 100cm telescopic antenna that would fit our needs?

The length of antenna determines it’s frequency and a longer antenna will not be tuned to to correct band. At best, it won’t work and at worst you could damage the transceiver on the Pro RF by using an antenna that’s not tuned for the band you’re transmitting in.

What you’re going to need to do is put your existing antenna on a rod or arm that’s a meter or more long and then use a cable to go between the antenna and the Pro RF. Get the antenna higher rather than make the antenna longer.

Thanks for the response. What would be the best antenna to use for the ProRF at 863Mhz?

Also, just to be clear on what you said:

Telescopic Antenna SMA - 75 MHz to 1 GHz (ANT500) - WRL-13002 will not work with the ProRF at 863Mhz?

The antennas you’re using now would be fine as they are tuned to the correct band.

WRL-13002 will not work because it’s a receiving antenna that’s not tuned to the specific band you’re transmitting in.

Perhaps an extension [like this will get the antenna high enough.

Edit: Verify the connectors before you buy.](Amazon.com)
