MicroMod F9P GNSS Basestation Feasibility

Hello!

I’d like to get some input on the feasibility of a MicroMod-based GNSS Reference Station with the following BOM:

  1. MicroMod Main Board - Double (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/18576)

  2. MicroMod ESP32 Processor (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/16781)

  3. MicroMod GNSS Function Board - ZED-F9P (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/19663)

  4. MicroMod Ethernet Function Board - W5500 (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/18708)

  5. Lithium Ion Battery - 2Ah (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13855)

  6. SiK Telemetry Radio V3 - 915MHz, 100mW (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/19032)

Specifically, I’d like to build off of the ESP32 Setup (Option 2) as shown in the DIY GNSS Reference Station tutorial. (https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/ho … ce-station), but modify it to transmit to an NTRIP Caster via an ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.

Also, the ability to run the entire basestation via PoE would be ideal. Would PoE be sufficient to also charge a single cell LiPo from the JST connector on the Main Board? That way if there’s an issue with connectivity or the PoE switch it’s connected to it can still transmit corrections via the Telemetry Radio (Via ports Tx2/Rx2 on the F9P) until the battery dies.

I’d really appreciate any input ,

Thank you!

I have often seen that these projects need to be done on a trial-and-error basis. These are often turn-key projects. You may do a cost estimation and make a BOM. But in the end, many changes take place. I think you proceed with your existing parts list and see the result. That will lead you to determine what changes should be done.

Hey @originaldev,

I meant to reply to this post when you originally made it. I have some very similar goals and I think it’d be great to chat more about it.

Cheers,

Adam
