MP3-Shield (Sound) Problem

Hello,

I have problems with the MP3-Shield getting a sound out of it.

That’s my second Shield I orderd, because I thought I damaged the

first with wrong wireing.

I use the Shield with an Arduino Uno board.

I guess everything is working, but I can hear no sound over headphones.

The headphones were tested with other devices and they are ok.

I use the example sketch “FilePlayer”. When I open the serial monitor

I can hear some quiet crackle over the headphones. When I start to play

an audio file, I can’t hear anything. I used the “+” for turning up the

volume with no difference. When I use the “d” or “l” option for listing

the audio files on the sd-card, all files are shown. When is use the “S”

switch, it tells me, that an audio ist still playing, but with no

outcoming sound. I have the same problem with both boards.

What I’m doing wrong and what can I do to make it working?

Thanks for help.

Hi yelw0rc.

We test these shields during manufacture so you should have received a working shield.

What size SD card are you using? You might try a different brand card and use a card that’s 16GB or smaller in size.

If you’re still having trouble after trying that, send a photo of the top and bottom of your shield so we can take a peek.

Hi TS-Chris,

thanks for your answer.

After hours and days working around with two MP3-Player Shields, testing different sd-cards without positiv results,

it came to my mind to try another Arduino Board from another project. What shell I say … the Arduino was the problem.

After useing another Arduino, it worked like a charm. Both Shields

I have another question to an expert.

What do I need to use a 0,5w or 0,25w 8-Ohm speaker with the shield?

Thank you vervy much and greets

You may be able to directly drive a small speaker from the audio output pads on the shield, but the volume may not be that much. You’d have to give it a try and see if it’s loud enough for your application.

If it’s not loud enough, a small amp like the [Noisy Cricket would do the trick.](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14475)
