Need for power injection for distance sensors to work?

Hi there,

I’m working on an interactive sculpture project which involves 10 distance sensors VL53L4CD - see attached drawing. I distribute the data/power using a couple of mux boards in daisy chain and I extend the system using endpoints and 3m ethernet cables.

I’m wondering whether the power outputted by the dev board (SparkFun Thing Plus - Artemis) is sufficient to power the 10 sensors especially with the voltage drop resulting from the mux boards + 3m ethernet cables.

The only thing I know is that the VL53L4CD has a max consumption of 24mA. Do I need to inject power?

If so, the first endpoints look like an option (see exemple of power injection on the drawing). What do you think?

You’ll probably need to hook them up and test them physically to know for certain; the artemis can supply ~600mA which might be enough…I’d recommend using the suggested power injection if not
