nRF24L01 + power amp

I just got a pair of nRF24L01 modules from sparkfun. These modules are pretty cool with the exception that the output power and sensitivity is on the low side. It would be nice if a module was available with a RF amplifier plus an antenna switch. The nordic has enough channels to make it FCC legal with frequency hopping.

No, I don’t like AT style interfaces. Yes, I do want the 2mbps speed of the nordic. Yes, I like the low cost.

Is this even possible? I mean, all the amplification circuitry is inside the chip, and the RX/TX mixing/switching is inside as well! If it had an external RX/TX switch like I've seen in other places than sure, it seems like you could put your amp in between the nRF24L01 and the switch. But otherwise, how would you do it?

Note that this is much more of a question than a statement… I am RF handicapped - it’s all black magic to me.

I have asked this question in the past, some other place/forum probably, can’t remember exactly where.

Consensus was that is do-able, but not easy…

Maybe you should have asked this in the wireless/rf forums, for better audience

Have you tried Nordic support? They should be able to help!

Please post your findings here!

An RF amplifier is not the right solution for transceiver operation in my experience… a better antenna is the approach you may wish to try.
