I have decided to make a barn door for a spare bedroom/den (french doors that just get in the way currently) and I want to keep the open character by putting windows in them. Since barn doors are not great candidates for blinds and I would like to have clear glass most of the time I am thinking of smart film or smart glass. For this I think the film is better because power off condition is opaque so a failure of my power system does not create embarrassing moments for any guests changing.
So my question is how does one reliably power a sliding door? I’m sure someone must have a wiring design to minimize movement and make a reliable connection, but I suspect my ignorance is stopping me from searching the correct terms to find this. They would only ever need to be powered closed as open they would just show the walls behind them. I’m sure just using frosted glass and giving up the option of clear would be easier but this stuff looks fun. Except my ignorance on how to do it.
