powering up wifly RN XV module

hi,

I am new to all this and was hoping for some help!

At the moment I have my RN XV wifly module powered up through a USB serial connection. I was hoping to power it up using a 9v battery source so that i can move the device around, and find the device through my laptop once powered up. First of all is this possibe?

Any suggestions on how to get a regulated 3.3v power supply?

Then, do I just apply 3.3v to Pin 1 (VDD) and Pin 10 (GND). I think Pin 2 (TX) and Pin 3 (RX) also need to be connected to create a wireless data connection, so do I just connect 3.3v to these aswell.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The WiFly will work fine using 2 AA or AAA batteries as a power source. If you must use a 9V battery, for highest efficiency and longest battery life you will need a 3.3 V switching regulator like this one: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/2097

I don’t think you need to connect TX and RX to anything, unless you intend to use them for a serial data connection. Make sure that you do not expose RX and TX to a voltage higher than 3.3 V or you will destroy the WiFly.
