WiFly RN-XV Hardware Problem

I recently received an RN-XV WiFly module along with breakout board (not Explorer) & a logic level converter for the serial connections. I finally got around to trying it out & it doesn’t seem to do anything. I’ve connected 3.3V power from an Arduino Uno to pin 1 and ground from the Uno on pin 10 of the WiFly. I tried it like that just to see it power up and there was no response from the LED’s on the WiFly. I then connected pins 2 & 3 to the Uno pins 0 & 1 through a logic level converter using 5V & 3.3V power from the Uno. I powered it on like that and still no LED response. I then tried to restart the WiFly in AdHoc mode by applying 3.3V to pin 8 during startup. I still saw no response from the LEDs & my laptop sitting 3’ away from the WiFly did not detect its AdHoc network.

If the module is working shouldn’t I at least see blinking LED’s? Are there any connections that I’ve got wrong or missing?

It would help if you told us exactly what module you have. There are several.

RN-XV WiFly Module w/ Wire Antenna, uses RN-171 WiFi module [https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10822]

I don’t have that particular module, but keep in mind that the LEDs can be semi-permanently disabled by command. My suggestion is to connect RX and TX on the module to a 3.3 V USB-serial port adapter and using a terminal program on your computer, try to get the module into command mode.

Thanks. I’ll see if I can do that.
