I have been using the WiFly RN-XV with U.FL antenna for about a week ( https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11048 ) and went to power it on this morning to only get a solid red LED. Tried jumping pin 8 for adhoc mode/factory reset but only a RED LED solid when power/grnd is provided. using 3.3v regulator. Similar to this post https://forum.sparkfun.com/viewtopic.ph … ed#p134041

Im assuming you have after the factory reset updated the firmware again correct?
The factory reset doesn’t appear to be working. I am powering with pin 8 (reset) connected with power3.3v/grnd. The RED LED never changes unless i connect one of the other 2 pins that control the LED (pin 5 yellow, 18 green) . Cannot update the firmware as the factory reset appears to fail.
Well the reset on pin 5 appears to be active low. So you would need to connect it to ground, like any other microcontroller. I would first send the devise into reset by grounding pin 5, then applying the Factory reset by hooking pin 8 to 3v3. As for pin 18, I have no clue why the green LED activates.
Thank you for your suggestions, you have been very helpful. The most helpful thus far. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get any new change by resetting with pin 5 and pin 8. I’ve contacted Roving Networks and Sparkfun. Hopefully I will be able to update the status of this post soon with some good news.
To me, sounds like a bad module.
Just updating this post for future reference. After contacting roving networks and Sparkfun. It does appear to be a bad module that causes this problem. Sparkfun has been most helpful in this issue as well as you Joeisi. They are actually replacing it for me, and their customer service is top notch. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
