Problems w/ 2343 & AVR-P8B development board?

Has anyone successfully used the Olimex AVR-P8B development board

with a AT90S2343-10PC cpu?

I’m having problems, and think it may be related to the following

(snipped from an exchange w/ Spark Fun). I’ll update this thread

when I’ve had a chance to confirm my suspicions.

I was also thinking that the RCEN oscillator fuse might have something

to do with it. The 2343-10PC (and -4PC) come from the factory with the

r/c oscillator disabled by default, and from reading the data sheet, it

appears the CPU has to be clocked during low-voltage serial programming.

(If I had a high-voltage programmer setup, I could set the fuse myself.)

I’m going to pick up a Tiny15L locally and see if I can get that to work.

It only supports its internal r/c oscillator, and thus presumably ships

with RCEN set to “on”.

The ATTiny15L works just fine, so I believe the problem sits

with the 2343 chips.

One note: the Olimex parallel port programmer DOES NOT

work with the current ATMEL AVR Studio package, as far as

I can determine. (It appears that the serial programmer is supported,

however.)

I am using “uisp” (http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/uisp/)

and it seems to work for me.
