Programmable way of remote control

Hello,

I am new to this forum and new to this topic. I have a bachelor in marine engineering, and I have just started my master degree.

My next project in that case is to control a vessel, remotely. I could of course just use a standard RC-kit with a remote control, a dedicated receiver and the respective servos.

But this would just postpone the problem I will encounter at the next stage: To be able to program the controls. I have no experience from electronics and I have just started learning programming - so to be honest I am completely lost. But so far this forum and this shop looks like the most promising place to start.

Is there any general way to go about this problem? I guess I’m not the first person doing this; what kind of set up, software and equipment would be needed for this?

I realize that I should read up and get a basic understanding before asking others for help, but I am really struggling with where to start. If this is regarded basic and waste of space I apologize, but I hope someone at least can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Looks very good, I will read up there.
