Question about sparkfun products - protoboard and Lipos

Hi.

I know little about Lipo technology and was hoping someone might be able two questions about Sparkfun products.

[1] The new prototyping boards - the koala etc (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8722 have on board Lipo charging. Do they have any form of under / over charging protection?

[2] Looking to use the 2000mAh Lipo battery ( http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8483 in conjunction with the koala. The datasheet provided gives the peak current supply as 2C. Not knowing the terminology, what is C? Is it 2000mA for a 2000mAh nominal cell?

Thanks!

  1. you can find that out from the schematic, after looking 1 min over it it seems there is no protection for over discharging, but the charging, as expected, is done via a specialized IC, so it will detect when to stop charging.

  2. it’s exactly as you said, C are for the bat’s amps.

As far as for over discharging, just use the microprocessor to detect the battery voltage and shut itself off if it is too low.
