Question concerning PTH (Plated Through Hole)

Hey guys,

Quick question. I’ve got some through hole components that I’m putting on a 2-layer board, and I was wondering if I should have the footprint for the parts on the top layer or bottom layer.

Since I’ve already designed most of the board and have the parts on the top layer, if I go ahead with PTH, will I be able to solder my through hole component from the bottom layer? Will having PTH allow me to solder through hole parts from the bottom layer?

That’s how it’s usually done.

How is it that you are able to design with TH parts and not have pads on both sides of the board? Is there actually PCB CAD SW that does that?

It can be done with the Pulsonix software I use, but it needs special footprints to be created.
