I have an MCU acting as an I2C master and three sensors which are I2C slaves and will be located about 2 meters from the MCU in different directions, so I guess I will need range extenders like the COM-16988 endpoints, but a bus topology would not be practical in this case because of the sensor placement, so is it possible to somehow connect the devices in a star topology? For example connecting two or three endpoints to the same I2C bus on the MCU in parallel, or could you get away with using only one endpoint at the master side and then split the TP-cable to multiple slave endpoints? Or do I have to run long TP-cables back and forth to the sensors and use midpoints for a bus topology instead?
EDIT: Found some info in this thread
So it looks like it is possible to have several endpoints in parallel on the master side. A bit unclear if it is possible to use only one endpoint on the master though and split the TP cable to multiple slaves.
