I’ve worked with a number of Raspberry Pis although this is my first RPi5. I’ve never had a DOA before.
Out of the box it doesn’t run and status light remains red.
Power supply is capable of delivering 2A.
I’ve tried two different SD cards
No video output
Board is cold which tells me it just isn’t running
Is there anything else I should try?
You need a higher power supply…Pi 5 needs at least 3A @ 5.1v or more, and can use up to 5A…switch to something like Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C PD Power Supply - Black - TOL-23584 - SparkFun Electronics and you should have a better time
I hope the power supply upgrade suggested by TS_Russell will solve your PI’s problem. By the way, if you need, you can take a look at these common troubleshooting techniques. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d47M66g7_IA
If you want to keep all the features of Raspberry pi, written in one place, you can see this: https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2023/10/introduction-to-raspberry-pi-5.html
I just got a 45W power supply capable of delivering 5A and 5V. The board still won’t boot and the status LED remains red. The board is cold. Nothing coming from the video port. What next?
Share a link to the supply you’re using…it needs to be a mean-well supply, like the one I linked. Also, 5v * 5a = 25w, not 45w…so I wanna see what you have
Which Pi OS are you using? Which SD cards? The need to be new/fast as well :-/

Ok, those both look good - you may have a DoA board - Was it purchased from us? If so head over to Return Policy - SparkFun Electronics (contact vendor if purchased elsewhere) and we’ll get ya squared away
