I’m creating a footprint for a component that has rectangular pins (0.8mm X 3mm) and OrCAD let’s me define rectangular or oblong hole shapes, but if I use rectangular and/or oblong holes is it possible to get the board manufactured?
If I can’t use rectangular or oblong holes I suppose the best way to make it is doing a 3mm round drill, but that would eat some more useful space in the board…
I believe what will happen is this: if you define a rectangular pad (on all layers, including the drill), the manufacturer will just pull the drill size (lets say its 40) and drill it but you will have a rectangular or square pad on the top. The actual hole will not be rectangular/square though.
I have had square pads but I have never tried specifying the drill layer to be rectangular as well.
