Replacing a USB cable with a wireless connection

This is something I’ve been considering doing for a while. Basically I want to take a USB HID gamepad and cut the cord on it, replacing the end that connects to the computer with a wireless dongle and the end that connects to the gamepad with a transceiver. What products do I need to accomplish this?

I’ve looked at XBee, but I don’t know if this is able to plug in as an HID (not to mention it’s $45 just for the XBee’s themselves).

But wireless Game-pad are already available in market, I didn’t understand why you want to do it yourself. Just buy it from dealer.
