RFM12 315/433/868/915MHZ RF module

I came across a couple of interesting projects. They combine an Arduino-compatible ATmega with an RFM12 315/433/868/915MHZ RF module.

The JeeNode (http://news.jeelabs.org/docs/jn3.html), JeeLink (http://news.jeelabs.org/docs/jl1.html) and Strobit (http://blog.strobotics.com.au/topics/em … -embedded/).

I’m not so interested in the projects themselves (although they’re very well done) as much as the RFM12 RF module (http://www.hoperf.com/pro/rfm12.html). Since the manufacturer is located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, it makes it little awkward to order a few modules for testing.

Perhaps Sparkfun could consider carrying their module or perhaps someone knows of a more convenient distributor.

Any comments?

People have mentioned that you can do a minimum sample order of 10 from HopeRF and the price is $3 each. I tried asking for a sample quote, but they never responded to me. Probably because I didn’t give them a business e-mail.

I did get them from a dealer, but they only have the non-smd versions available. I’d rather have the SMD module if SFE can get it.

Yes you can purchase samples from them, however min order is 10 @ $3 down to $1 for qty 1000, which makes this a very resonably priced RF module, considering it’s functionality and range. also shipping is $20 so it’s worth getting a few other samples as well or get some other interest and do a purchase.

Email is tr@hoperf.com, my contact is James. You can pay via paypal, delivery take about 7-10 days (to Australia)

Another module you might be interested in is the RFM22 and RFM23 which is the new big brother to the RFM12 modules. These are $6ea in sample QTYs.

Stephen…

Thanks for the replies!

I guess it’s worth at least trying to order some direct from the manufacturer. Even with shipping it’s not outrageous.

I’d have to layout some breakout boards first, but that shouldn’t be too difficult.

I already have a BOB for the DIP module. If you want I can send through the files (in Eagle).

James Lin did send me a quote for $4 each for the RFM12B. Sample quantity of 10, so the price of these has possibly gone up.

Yes I too would like to see these carried by SparkFun

I would also like to see these nifty things at Sparkfun
