RTK Surveyor Kit - how long to obtain first GNSS fix?

I have started my newly purchased RTK Surveyor Kit and turned it on with the TOP106 antenna connected. How long does it usually take for the PPS LED to begin pulsing the first time the unit is turned on? I am in New Zealand - is this going to make it take longer? Do I need to do anything further to get it to begin tracking satellites for a rough position other than turn it on?

If you’re outside with a clear view of the sky you should get a fix in 10 minutes or less. Sometimes the first time you get a fix will take a long time (more than 10 minutes) though since the receiver doesn’t know where on the planet it currently is.

After being out in a clear area for well over an hour and getting no fix yesterday, I tried again this morning and achieved fix within a minute.

I tried again this afternoon and again there is no fix.

Is there some time issue that I should be aware of?

Hello,

I am using the SF RTK surveyor kit with TOPS106 antenna as well. I have 4 days of field use with no problems, however today RTK fix failed half way thru the day and never reconnected. I am still able to connect single fix ~1m accuracy. Tried restarting rover and base throughout the rest of the day with no luck. Hoping it works properly in the morning.

Any ideas on what is causing this issue?

I have just retried and at first had an invalid fix but after about 5 minutes started to get satellites again.

I will try again tomorrow morning and after midday to see if there is a timing issue.

Perhaps there is a period where the satellite constellation is so poor that it cannot establish a fix.

This seems unlikely with so many available.

However, here in NZ the route of the northern hemisphere satellites is not always optimal for us.

Hello, I have found the issue. The L1/L2 antenna stud broke from our RTK surveyor base unit. We have tried extending the trace wire and resoldering the antenna stud but the base unit still will not connect. Any insight on reattaching antenna stud?

Thanks,

Cameron

Sorry, no.
