SerLCD - Which display is better for daylight readability

I am looking for a simple display that needs to be daylight readable. It is for a project that will reside on the dashboard of a vehicle. The common blue and red 1602’s totally wash out in bright light. I was looking at SparFuns 1602 SerLCD’s (LCD-16396 and LCD-16397) and see there are 2 versions: black on RGB and RGB on black. Was wondering which would be better in this application?

Thanks

It really depends on where it’ll be mounted and how much background light surrounds that area (you want to create as much contrast as possible)

Personally I’d guess RGB on black would be better. You may want to create a shroud that helps isolate the display area to enhance the local contrast, too
