silk_gen.ulp seems to make the board file corrupt

Hi,

I ran silk_gen.ulp but it seems to make the board file corrupt? If I say yes to the question of “your design has changed” then I can no longer open the board file. If I DONT save it, then it works and I can open the file again

Anyone had simmilar experience with that script?

Thanks

B

are you running it without the schematic open? bad things happen in eagle when you close either the board or schematic and change the other. keep 'em both open.

Yes I do have both open. I even tried this - I start new schematic, then I do the “create board” and then I close the board. With the schematic still open I double-click the board file in the control panel and I get this error:

I think you should pay careful attention to the last part of that message…

Yes I did - I am using the freeware vesion, I dont see how that could damage the files as the freeware is totally ok to use “for free” correct?

So unless the freeware is seen as the illegal version I have no other explanation. Of course then the quetsion is why?

– EDIT: Oops I figured it out. I deleted a file calle eagle.key and on the next start-up it asked again for license. I said freeware and then it looks like it re-created another eagle.key file and now it works. Thanks, I didnt look close into the error to think its something to do with licensing. Always assumed file corruption

For future reference, don’t even bother with silk gen. It makes all kinds of duplicate silk characters that stick around it the old spot when you move your parts. Also, it’s not even needed. I set my silkscreen text to a tiny 0.24 size and it still comes out very clear on the PCB.

Hi,

So do I take that the script that Sparkfun provides is NOT to be used since it uses much thicker silk screen prints? If not using the script, how does one generate the silk screen to begin with? My Eagle files do not produce a silk screen that the fab house robot accepts so what is the best way to do this?

Thanks
