Simon Game Starts But Doesn't Play Game

Two of my summer campers soldered the Simon Says game. The buzzer and lights work but the game doesn’t play. Instead, a slow song plays and the lights blink in sequence. I’ve taught hundreds of kids to use this kit and have never seen this. I resoldered the joints on one of the games with fresh solder. There are no bridges or obvious issues. Can I get some help with the please.

I’m adding to my earlier post. We’re doing the Simon game today and so far, 3 kids have finished, the soldering is solid, none of them work.

So far, 5 of five don’t work and 3 of the slide switches have melted and require a new (toggle) switch to be soldered on.
