Simple level shifters for I2C and other uses.

We are in a time when we have multiple different voltage levels to deal with. We have the old fashioned 5V, the new 3.3V, newer 1.8V, and others probably. So far I have only found a single chip in a DIP style form to do 3.3V to 5V I2C level translation, the NXP P82B96 is available in an 8 pin DIP from DigiKey for $3.08 a piece.

Are there any alternatives? I need something that is in a DIP to be usable on a solderless breadboard or project board. It would be real cool if Spark Fun could come out with a simple board to do this sort of bidirectional level shifting.
