"Universal" level translator

Hello

I think you should make an interfacing board based on the TXS0108 from Texas instruments.

It is a 8-Bit Bidirectional Voltage-Level Translator For Open-Drain And Push-Pull Application, see:

http://www.ti.com/product/txs0108e

Volume price: 1.5-2.0 $

I propose a breakout that contains the above device and could it could be supplemented with the following:

A voltage regulator for driving the “low” side of the device, perhaps even with dip-switches to select voltage ie. 1.8v; 3.3v

A dip-switch to enable the device permanently or let it be controlled by an external signal

Please note that I was not asking for a way to solve the level-shifting problem, i was making a product suggestion

While I’m aware of that existing product I think my proposal covers a wider range of functionality and usefulness, for example it provides:

  • driving capabilities in both directions (buffering)

  • more channels

  • output enable/disable (3-stated)

  • ESD protection

I have also found need for such a device, and the existing level shifter board doesn’t quite fit the bill. I’d buy it if you made it.

We have something similar based on the [TXS0401 chip, including regulator down to 3.3V.
