Slotted Pads

I could not find any information on whether BacthPCB service supports slotted pads. Is this supported? If so do you just supply a readme file indicating which pads are slotted?

I noticed my drill file just shows two drills at each end of the slot but nothing about routing between them so I assume this has to be described in a readme file.

Thanks

Shawn

Shawn,

I’m not totally certain, but I believe the FAW states there is no internal routing of boards by Batch PCB.

But I’ll read again.

Greetings Shawn,

I’ve done one board through BatchPCB with slots. I had my

fingers crossed, as I didn’t request the slots beyond the

way I built the part’s footprint in EAGLE.

I did it by filling the required slot with overlapping drills.

This creates multiple DRC errors in EAGLE. The finished

board had a nicely formed slot with plating on internal

walls. The part is a DC Power Jack that has three blade

contacts for PCB insertion. Ironically, after this effort I

found a version of the same part with round pins…

I’ve seen PCB board houses object to overlapping drills.

Comments Welcome!

I would expect that they would not allow overlapping drills. That would probably cause their bits to break unless it was a large diameter hole. Slots really need to be routed.

I got an email back from BatchPCB saying that slots are not supported.

Shawn,

Then don’t use BatchPCB…

I’ve had luck with them doing overlapping drill hits for me as well… It ended up plated, but it was easy to peel the plating out if you wanted.
